Residents of Matioli area in Butali-Chegulo Ward, Malava Constituency, are in shock following a tragic incident in which a 39-year-old man allegedly killed his brother-in-law’s one-month-old baby during a traditional ceremony.
According to Matioli Location Chief Daniel Chimuche Mlambula, the suspect, Amondo Mola, had hosted his brother-in-law, who had travelled home with the infant for a traditional shaving ceremony a customary rite of passage among the Luhya community. However, the celebration took a horrifying turn when the child was allegedly killed during the visit.
“I received a report from a resident that someone had slaughtered a baby,” Chief Mlambula confirmed.
The baby’s mother, identified only as Mary, had travelled from Nairobi, where her husband works, to take part in the cultural ritual.
The motive behind the gruesome act remains unknown. The suspect has since been arrested and taken to Kabras Police Post as police begin investigations into the incident.
The infant’s body was moved to the mortuary, as authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the shocking tragedy.
