Residents of Muthiga Village in Salgaa, Rongai, Nakuru County, are in shock and mourning following the gruesome murder of an elderly couple in their home on Sunday.
The victims, Joseph Kihiti, 90, and his wife Bethrosa Wanjiku, 63, were discovered dead under distressing circumstances, sparking fear and disbelief among villagers.
According to Area Chief Stephen Nderitu, alarm was raised when the couple failed to attend church a routine they faithfully observed.
“Church members and residents visited their home and found the front door locked. At the back, they were met by a pool of blood and an open door,” the chief recounted.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple suffered a violent attack. Rongai Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer Donata Atieno confirmed that the bodies bore signs of severe assault, indicating that the murders likely occurred on Friday evening, though they were discovered two days later.
The couple, who lived alone on their farm, reportedly had no known disputes or enemies, and nothing was stolen from the home a detail that has deepened the mystery surrounding the killings.
Their son, John Njogu, struggled to come to terms with the tragedy.
“Why would anyone think of taking my father’s life at such an age?” he asked in anguish.
Police have launched a full investigation into the double homicide as detectives work to uncover the motive behind the brutal attack.
