Police in Kisumu Central Sub-county have arrested Kibuye Market chairlady Judith Matengo, widely known as Nyaramba, after a viral video surfaced showing her assaulting two female traders with a wooden rod.
Matengo was taken into custody on Monday night while hiding within the market, hours after the footage triggered widespread public condemnation.
The victims, Mercy Okoth and Rozette Adhiambo, have recorded statements with investigators. According to police, both women sustained soft-tissue injuries during the midday assault, which was filmed by other traders at the scene. They later received treatment at Lumumba Sub-county Hospital.
Authorities indicate that the motive behind the attack is still under investigation, and officers are pursuing additional suspects believed to have participated in the incident.
Matengo is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, where she will face charges connected to the assault.
