Detectives in Nairobi have shot dead a suspected robber and recovered a firearm following a confrontation along Jubilee Flyover on Wangari Maathai Road.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from the Nairobi North Sub-Region were conducting a routine foot patrol on March 21, 2026, at approximately 5:50 p.m. when they received a tip-off from a member of the public. The alert indicated that three armed suspects were actively robbing pedestrians in the Makaburini area.

According to police, the suspects later emerged from nearby bushland and confronted the officers. During the encounter, one of the suspects allegedly drew a pistol and pointed it at an officer, prompting police to open fire.

One suspect was fatally shot at the scene, while two others believed to have sustained injuries escaped into nearby thickets.

Firearm and Ammunition Recovered

A search of the scene led to the recovery of a Blow Mini 9 pistol, along with a magazine containing two rounds of 9mm ammunition. Police also reported that one round was found chambered, while two additional rounds were allegedly recovered from the deceased suspect’s pocket.

The scene was processed by officers from Starehe and Gigiri sub-counties in conjunction with personnel from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Scenes of Crime units.

Ongoing Manhunt

The body of the deceased was moved to City Mortuary pending identification and a post-mortem examination.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the two suspects who fled and are urging members of the public with relevant information to report to the nearest DCI office or use the “Fichua kwa DCI” hotline.

Authorities say investigations remain ongoing as security agencies intensify efforts to curb armed robbery incidents in the capital.
