Police have arrested three suspects believed to be behind the killing of a medical professional in Eldoret, with authorities indicating they will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

The suspects Titus Wainaina Njoroge, Jeremiah Njuguna Kinyanjui and Patrick Kinuthia Mwangi are alleged to have been involved in a robbery with violence that led to the death of Richard Rotich, a pharmacist at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

Speaking to the press in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation by police officers and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters. An AK-47 rifle was recovered during the operation, raising concerns over the level of sophistication involved in the crime.

Commander Mwanthi further revealed that one of the suspects is a convicted criminal who was initially arrested in 2018 and later released after serving a seven-year sentence. Investigators are now working to establish the suspects’ full criminal history and any possible links to other violent crimes in the region.

Authorities said the suspects are being held as detectives finalize their probe, after which they will be formally charged in court.

In response to public concern following the incident, Mwanthi assured residents that security within Eldoret and its environs has been significantly enhanced. He urged members of the public to remain calm and continue with their daily activities, noting that law enforcement agencies are committed to restoring and maintaining safety.

The killing of Rotich has sparked renewed calls for tougher measures against violent crime, particularly incidents involving illegal firearms, as investigations continue.
