Nairobi, Kenya – National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has urged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Central Management Committee to expel party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of disloyalty and undermining party unity.
Speaking in Suba South constituency on Sunday, February 8, 2026, Mbadi, a former ODM chairman, alleged that Sifuna and his allies have shifted allegiance to the United Opposition and cannot be allowed to hold ODM hostage for personal interests.
“If someone does not want to agree with ODM policies… that person should be left to go so that we know how many people he is leaving with,” Mbadi said.
“Someone like Sifuna will not remain in ODM because already he is conflicted. He is now selling the agenda of someone else. Why are you pretending? You cannot keep him at the party.”
Allegations of Indiscipline
Mbadi accused Sifuna of showing indiscipline toward ODM leader Oburu Oginga, insisting that the Central Management Committee should act swiftly to safeguard the party’s credibility. He dismissed the Linda Wananchi campaign led by Sifuna, Babu Owino, and James Orengo, describing it as baseless.
Defense of ODM’s Stability
Despite internal tensions, Mbadi maintained that ODM remains a solid party and will continue to operate under its policies and leadership. He emphasized that the UDA-ODM partnership will endure despite opposition from rebel members.
“ODM is a solid party. There is no way it will fail. It will remain solid the way Raila left it. Some people think we cannot play politics. We will, and we will ensure we talk to our people to remain steadfast in ODM under the leadership of Oburu Oginga,” Mbadi said.
Conclusion
Mbadi’s remarks highlight growing divisions within ODM as leaders reposition themselves in Kenya’s shifting political landscape. The call for Sifuna’s expulsion underscores the party’s struggle to balance loyalty, discipline, and alliances ahead of future national contests.
