Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, has publicly voiced strong support for Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, urging Mt. Kenya residents to back him and President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.

Endorsing Kindiki’s Role

Speaking in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, on Sunday, Ruku emphasized that Kindiki will remain Ruto’s deputy despite claims by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that it will seek the position in the upcoming polls.

“ODM, leave the DP seat alone; it belongs to Kindiki until 2032, when Kindiki will vie for president,” Ruku declared, signaling long-term plans for Kindiki’s political trajectory.

His remarks came after ODM Party leader Oburu Oginga reversed earlier statements, now indicating the party’s interest in the deputy presidency.

Criticism of Rigathi Gachagua

Ruku also took aim at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of spreading division and questioning his claims that Mt. Kenya residents are excluded from government. “We have the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, Kithure Kindiki, who is from Mt. Kenya. How can you tell the people of Mt. Kenya that they are not in the government?” Ruku asked.

He dismissed Gachagua’s criticisms, insisting that Kenyans are not intimidated and predicting that Gachagua would find himself isolated in opposition.

Mobilizing Mt. Kenya Support

Joined by Mwea MP Mary Maingi, Ruku announced plans to mobilize Mt. Kenya communities in support of Ruto and Kindiki’s re-election bid. Maingi echoed his sentiments, affirming that Kindiki is assured of two terms and highlighting his roots in Mt. Kenya East.

The event, held at Joy Holy Trinity Ministry Gakungu Church, was celebratory in tone, with CS Ruku sharing cake and marking his birthday alongside supporters.
