Eric Omondi Reveals Mike Sonko Donated KSh400,000 to Natalie Githinji

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan comedian and activist Eric Omondi has revealed that former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko supported endometriosis advocate Natalie Githinji with KSh400,000, despite not attending her Endometriosis Warriors event at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Omondi made the revelation on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, while addressing controversy surrounding politicians' attendance at the event held on Sunday, September 27.

“Sonko ali-support Natalie na KSh400K na hakukuja KICC,” Omondi said.

According to Omondi, Sonko chose to support Githinji financially without attending the gathering, which organisers had intended to keep focused on endometriosis awareness and advocacy.

Karen Nyamu's Attendance Sparks Debate

Omondi's comments came amid a public discussion over nominated Senator Karen Nyamu's decision to attend the KICC event.

He said Nyamu had contacted him before the event and expressed interest in supporting Githinji. Omondi said he encouraged the senator to contact Githinji directly and provide assistance.

According to Omondi, Nyamu subsequently sent Githinji KSh100,000, but did not tell him that she intended to attend the event.

“Hakuniambia anakuja event,” Omondi said.

Nyamu nevertheless attended the event and addressed the gathering, where she spoke about endometriosis and her interest in advancing the cause through Parliament.

Organisers Had Asked Politicians to Stay Away

Omondi said organisers had agreed beforehand that politicians would not be allowed into the event because they feared political figures could shift attention away from Githinji's advocacy campaign.

He said security personnel had been instructed accordingly at the entrance.

Omondi cited two main reasons for the decision: ensuring that politicians did not dominate an event dedicated to endometriosis and highlighting the lack of financial support from political leaders towards Githinji's event.

He also questioned why politicians could not support Githinji financially while allowing her to remain the central focus of the gathering.

Nyamu Defends Her Attendance

Nyamu's appearance attracted interruptions from sections of the audience, including chants directed at her.

The senator later defended her decision to attend, saying she had a genuine interest in the endometriosis cause and had previously been involved in efforts to advance issues affecting people living with the condition through Parliament.

The controversy has since generated discussion about the role of political leaders in health advocacy events and whether public figures should attend such gatherings when organisers have requested a non-political environment.

Focus Remains on Endometriosis Advocacy

Githinji's Endometriosis Warriors event was organised to raise awareness about endometriosis and highlight the challenges faced by people living with the condition.

Omondi's disclosure about Sonko's contribution has also shifted attention toward the different ways public figures can support advocacy initiatives, either through direct financial assistance or public participation.
