Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed that he is suffering from a neurological disorder after experiencing a second on-field collapse within three days.
The 23-year-old Germany international was forced to leave the pitch after appearing dazed during Bayern Munich’s pre-season friendly against Heidenheim on Tuesday. The incident came just days after Musiala collapsed during Bayern’s home victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday.
Musiala received medical attention on the field before being helped off the pitch. Following the latest incident, the midfielder took to social media to explain the condition behind the episodes and reassure supporters about his health.
“I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary episodes of absence that are easily treatable and are caused by a neurological dysfunction,” Musiala said.
He explained that the condition can cause temporary episodes that may appear alarming to those watching.
“These can lead to the moments that have occurred recently, such as against Leipzig and now in Heidenheim.”
Musiala acknowledged the concern surrounding the incidents but said he remains optimistic about his condition.
“I know that they may seem scary at first glance - but for me, they are currently simply part of my everyday life.”
The Bayern star also expressed his gratitude for the messages of support he has received and said he is receiving appropriate medical care.
“I am receiving the best possible medical care in this regard, and I am very optimistic.”
Bayern aware of Musiala’s condition
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed after Tuesday’s match that the club was aware of Musiala’s situation and expected the player to address it publicly.
“Jamal will speak about this in the near future. We knew about it and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl said.
“Jamal will speak out.”
Musiala’s latest episode follows his collapse against Leipzig on Saturday, when he required medical attention during hot conditions in Munich, where temperatures were above 30°C.
Another setback after injury recovery
The latest health concerns come after Musiala endured a difficult previous season. He missed the first six months of the campaign after suffering a broken ankle at the Club World Cup.
The attacking midfielder eventually returned during the second half of the season and went on to represent Germany at the 2026 World Cup.
Musiala’s latest revelation is likely to prompt continued attention from Bayern’s medical team as the club monitors his condition. However, his own message to supporters was one of reassurance, emphasizing that he is receiving medical care and remains positive about his recovery.
For now, the priority will be Musiala’s health and ensuring that he receives the appropriate treatment before returning to competitive action.
