ELDORET, Kenya — Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has highlighted what he described as significant progress in economic empowerment, healthcare, education and infrastructure under President William Ruto’s administration.

Speaking during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, Kindiki said Kenya had made notable strides in improving livelihoods over the past four years, building on achievements recorded since independence.

He pointed to government interventions in agriculture, expanded health coverage and efforts to strengthen the social and economic rights of Kenyans as key areas of progress.

“During that journey, we have struggled with the project Kenya. We have struggled to continually improve the quality of life in our nation,” Kindiki said.

Agriculture and Economic Empowerment

Kindiki described the past four years under Ruto’s leadership as a defining period for the country, citing measures aimed at improving agricultural productivity and reducing production costs for farmers.

He said government interventions had focused on making farm inputs more affordable, supporting agricultural value chains and improving the livelihoods of farming households.

“Under your leadership, a lot of progress has been made to improve livelihood and empower farmers. Cheaper fertilizers, cheaper seeds, cheaper artificial insemination for our dairy farmers,” he said.

The Deputy President also cited efforts to improve productivity in the coffee, tea and sugarcane sectors, alongside support for fishing communities and people who depend on the blue economy.

He said continued investment in these sectors would be important in strengthening household incomes, expanding economic opportunities and supporting national development.

Government Cites Expansion of Healthcare Coverage

On healthcare, Kindiki pointed to an increase in the number of Kenyans covered under the Social Health Authority (SHA), describing access to healthcare as an important component of the government’s development agenda.

He said efforts to improve health coverage, alongside progress in education and infrastructure, should provide a foundation for further transformation.

The government has placed access to essential services among its key priorities, with healthcare financing and agricultural reforms forming part of its broader economic and social agenda.

Kenya’s Progress Since Independence

Kindiki said Kenya had made progress in governance, democracy and civil liberties during the 63 years since gaining independence.

However, he noted that the country’s development journey remained unfinished, arguing that the next phase should build on past achievements and deliver lasting improvements in the quality of life for citizens.

He called for sustained momentum in implementing development programmes, saying the coming years would be crucial in determining the long-term impact of ongoing reforms.

Kindiki Pledges Continued Support for Ruto

The Deputy President urged Kenyans to look ahead with a focus on consolidating progress and ensuring that government initiatives translate into meaningful benefits for households and communities.

Addressing President Ruto, Kindiki said the country needed a final push to secure lasting national transformation.

“Today, we are here to listen to you, Your Excellency, as you speak to our nation to inspire us, so this final push will not only be defining but also permanently transform our country for good into the future,” he said.

Kindiki also expressed gratitude for serving alongside the President and pledged to continue supporting the administration’s development agenda.

His remarks formed part of the Mashujaa Day celebrations, which honour individuals who have contributed to Kenya’s freedom, progress and national development.
