Martha Karua Mourns Father Jackson Karua

People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has announced the death of her father, Jackson Karua, paying tribute to him as a principled man who played an important role in her life and public journey.

Karua shared the news on Sunday after visiting her father at his home in Kirinyaga County, where she spent time with him alongside her siblings.

She said the family sang his favourite gospel hymn during the visit, not knowing it would be their final time together.

According to Karua, she received news of her father's death while travelling back to Nairobi.

Karua Remembers Her Father’s Support

In her tribute, Karua described her late father as one of her strongest supporters from her early years through her career in law and subsequent public service.

She recalled how he believed in her ambitions long before she had achieved public recognition.

Karua said his encouragement remained a constant presence throughout the different stages of her life.

She also remembered him as a teacher who placed strong emphasis on character, education and doing what is right.

“My father was a principled man, a teacher, and a man who believed deeply in the value of character, education, and doing what is right,” Karua said.

She added that, beyond his professional and personal principles, he was a loving father who was steady, generous and present for his family.

A Lasting Family Legacy

Karua said her father's influence extended beyond his immediate family, particularly through the values he instilled in his children.

She described his lessons and guidance as part of a legacy that the family would continue to carry forward.

“There is never really an age at which you are prepared to say goodbye to someone who has been part of your life from the very beginning,” she said.

Karua acknowledged that each member of the family would experience the loss differently but said they would continue to draw on the lessons and love their father had given them.

She particularly recalled his voice, counsel and encouragement, as well as the reassurance of knowing that he was always there for his family.

The announcement has prompted messages of condolence and support for Karua and her family as they mourn the loss of Jackson Karua.
