Kenya’s equity market ended the latest trading week under pressure, with the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) losing approximately KSh40.06 billion in market capitalisation in the week ended 9 October 2026.
According to a weekly market update by Standard Investment Bank, the Nairobi All Share Index (NASI) declined by 1.0 per cent week-on-week. The NSE 10 fell by 0.6 per cent, while the NSE 20 and NSE 25 declined by 0.2 per cent and 0.5 per cent, respectively.
Trading activity also slowed, with market turnover falling 14.4 per cent to approximately US$14.4 million.
Selected stocks record mixed performance
Nation Media Group accounted for 18.1 per cent of the week’s market turnover, while its share price gained 2.3 per cent to close at KSh15.40.
I&M Group was among the stronger performers, rising 6.1 per cent to KSh87.50. However, several major counters recorded declines. KCB Group fell 3.0 per cent to KSh89.75, Safaricom declined 2.2 per cent to KSh35.75, and Equity Group dropped 1.4 per cent to KSh104.
Nairobi Business Ventures was among the weakest performers, falling 7.3 per cent to KSh1.27.
Foreign investors turn net sellers
Foreign investors recorded net outflows of approximately US$5.7 million during the week, indicating that offshore investors sold more shares than they purchased.
The combination of falling indices, lower turnover and foreign selling presents a challenging backdrop for investors. However, weekly movements do not necessarily determine the market’s longer-term direction.
Investors will be watching corporate earnings, economic developments and upcoming policy decisions for signals about the next phase of trading.
