A primary school teacher has been arrested in Machakos County following allegations that he sexually abused a pupil who was under his care.

The teacher is being held at Tala Police Station as police continue investigations into the allegations before he is presented in court.

According to an incident report, the alleged abuse began in 2022 when the pupil was 14 years old and attending Class Eight at Kwatombe Primary School. The teacher, who was serving as an examination invigilator, is accused of repeatedly abusing the pupil and allegedly threatening him with serious consequences if he reported the incidents.

Investigators also allege that the teacher gave the pupil gifts, including mobile phones and money, and took him on outings.

The case reportedly came to light after the pupil became unwell and sought medical treatment at Nguluni Health Centre. Medical personnel reportedly identified sexually transmitted infections, prompting further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the pupil's condition.

Police subsequently opened investigations into the teacher's conduct, leading to his arrest.

Matungulu OCPD Peter Gichohi confirmed the arrest, saying several reports had supported allegations of abuse by the teacher.

The pupil, who is an orphan, is receiving medical attention as investigations continue.

Police are expected to complete their investigations before the suspect is taken to court. The allegations have not been tested in court, and the teacher remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
