The Wiper Patriotic Front has rejected reports suggesting that its party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, is preparing to work with President William Ruto’s administration ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Wiper chairman Jamleck Kamau described the reports as propaganda and said the party remained engaged in efforts to build a united opposition ahead of the elections.
The claims emerged amid increased political activity and consultations among parties and leaders seeking to shape possible alliances ahead of the August 2027 polls. Wiper's official communications have also continued to position the party within opposition efforts and preparations for the election.
Kamau Explains Muthama Engagement
Kamau also addressed Wiper's recent engagement with Johnstone Muthama, a member of the Parliamentary Service Commission.
He said he personally initiated discussions with Muthama and rejected suggestions that the meetings were intended to persuade Musyoka to join the government.
“I am the one who initiated the talks with Johnstone Muthama.”
Kamau said the two had met twice, including at a hotel in Nairobi and at his residence.
The issue gained attention after Muthama confirmed that he had recently held consultations with Musyoka. In a statement, Muthama described Musyoka as his longtime political friend and said their discussions covered national issues and matters affecting Kenyans. He did not announce any new political agreement arising from the meeting.
Wider Political Consultations
Kamau said Wiper was also engaging other leaders associated with the government, suggesting that political realignments remained possible as parties and individual politicians assess their positions ahead of the 2027 elections.
He maintained that such engagements should be understood within the wider political consultations taking place as parties consider potential coalitions and alliances.
Wiper's official website identifies Kalonzo Musyoka as the party leader and continues to carry notices concerning preparations for candidates seeking to contest the August 10, 2027 General Election on a Wiper ticket.
Focus on Kamba Political Unity
Former Ambassador Kiema Kilonzo said efforts to strengthen political cooperation should begin with bringing Kamba leaders together before expanding discussions to other communities and political formations.
He argued that greater unity among Kamba leaders could contribute to broader cooperation among opposition groups as the 2027 election approaches.
The discussions come at a time when political parties are increasingly holding consultations over coalition structures, leadership arrangements and potential candidates.
Wiper Maintains Opposition Position
Kamau maintained that Wiper would remain part of the united opposition and said the party was focused on building an alliance ahead of the 2027 election.
He said the party's objective was to consolidate opposition forces rather than enter an arrangement with the current administration.
Wiper has previously described its political strategy as part of efforts to build a broader opposition coalition. In August, the party said Musyoka was continuing consultations with constituent political parties and other groups over a united opposition front.
For now, the latest statements from Wiper and Muthama indicate that political consultations are continuing, while no new government arrangement involving Musyoka has been publicly announced.
