A burial ceremony in Kasemeini Village, Kibwezi, Makueni County was dramatically disrupted on Wednesday when a swarm of bees descended on mourners, leaving more than 10 people injured.
Ceremony Interrupted
The funeral was for Kyalo Kasyoki, who died on Sunday after reportedly being hit by a motorbike. The solemn event turned chaotic as mourners fled the scene to escape the aggressive swarm.
Injuries and Hospitalization
Those stung were rushed to Kibwezi AMREF Hospital for treatment. Medical staff confirmed that all victims are receiving care, with no fatalities reported.
Community Shock
Residents described the incident as unprecedented, noting that bee attacks in the area are rare but can be severe when triggered by large swarms. The disruption has left the community shaken, compounding grief over the loss of Kasyoki.
