A Singapore court has charged 26-year-old Australian Johnson Wen with being a public nuisance after he grabbed singer and actress Ariana Grande during the premiere of Wicked: For Good on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
Video footage captured Wen jumping over a barricade at Universal Studios Singapore and rushing toward Grande on the red carpet. Grande’s co-star, Cynthia Erivo, quickly intervened to protect her, and Wen was subsequently removed from the scene. Local media reports indicate that Wen plans to plead guilty and could face a fine of up to Ksh198,000.
Wen, who posts on Instagram under the handle pyjamamann, is known for invading concert stages, including performances by Katy Perry and The Weeknd. His approach toward Grande drew widespread backlash online, with many commenters condemning his actions as criminal.
Grande and her co-stars are concluding their extensive publicity tour ahead of the sequel’s release on November 21, 2025. Early reviews suggest the film could secure repeat Oscar nominations for its leading stars.
Red carpet invasions have become increasingly rare due to heightened security. Past incidents include podcaster Cielke Sijben handcuffing herself to Hugh Grant at the 2007 Music and Lyrics premiere, Bradley Cooper being accosted by a prankster in 2014, Will Smith receiving an unsolicited kiss at a Moscow premiere in 2012, and Kim Kardashian being floored by a flour bomb from a PETA activist the same year.
