In a chilling incident that has left residents of Lugari Sub-County in shock, a man narrowly escaped death after unknown attackers allegedly tied him up and set his house ablaze early Monday morning, October 27, 2025.
The victim, Patrick Magunamu, from Anjimbi Village in Marakusi Ward, was found alive inside his burnt home despite sustaining minor injuries and being bound by the assailants. Witnesses reported that the attackers broke into his house at around 2:00 a.m., restrained his hands, feet, and mouth, and then torched the house before fleeing the scene.
While the motive remains unclear, preliminary investigations suggest the attack could have been fueled by a personal dispute.
Terrifying Escape
According to a close friend, Walter Isagi, who discovered Magunamu moments after the incident, it was a miracle that he survived.
“I couldn’t believe he was still alive. The fire had consumed almost everything,” said Isagi.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Magunamu recounted the harrowing ordeal, claiming that one of the assailants had hidden under his bed before attacking him.
“They wanted to kill me. I thank God I’m alive,” he said.
Community Outrage and Calls for Justice
The attack has sparked outrage among residents of Anjimbi Village, who are calling for a thorough investigation and swift justice. Some locals allege the crime may have stemmed from a dispute between Magunamu and a friend over a romantic relationship a growing trend of concern in the area.
“Many young men are involved in violent confrontations over relationships, but most of these cases go unreported,” said one villager.
Community leaders have urged police to expedite investigations and ensure the culprits are apprehended. Others have appealed for calm, advising residents to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid retaliatory violence.
Magunamu, though physically unharmed, remains traumatized and fears his attackers may return. Police have launched a full investigation into the incident as the victim continues to recover from the ordeal.
