Police in Nairobi County have apprehended two Iranian nationals suspected of involvement in a theft at a mobile phone shop in Thika. The suspects, 56-year-old Heidari Mansoior Eslam and 40-year-old Babaei Ahmad Mirzaaga, were reportedly attempting to carry out a similar scheme when shopkeepers recognized them from a prior robbery.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the duo had approached the shop posing as customers. The shopkeeper, recalling a theft incident from a month earlier in which he lost Ksh.15,000, alerted a companion. Upon arrival, the companion confirmed their identities and raised an alarm, preventing the suspects from fleeing.
Law enforcement officers arrived promptly to apprehend the suspects and protect them from an angry crowd.
The pair are currently in custody at Thika Police Station awaiting arraignment, as investigations into the theft and related activities continue.
