“Fast & Furious” star Tyrese Gibson found himself in real-life legal trouble on Friday morning after turning himself in to Atlanta police over an alleged dog attack that left a neighbour’s pet dead.
The 45-year-old actor and singer was booked at Fulton County Jail just before 6 a.m. on a misdemeanour animal cruelty charge. He later posted a $20,000 bond and was released, according to authorities.
The case stems from an incident in Buckhead, the upscale Atlanta neighbourhood where Gibson lives, after neighbours claimed his dogs mauled and killed a 5-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Henry. The shocking allegation sparked outrage in the community and led to an arrest warrant issued last week.
Through his attorney Gabe Banks, Gibson has said he was out of town at the time but accepts full responsibility for his pets. His legal team confirmed the dogs have since been rehomed, though Fulton County officials say the animals must still be turned over to authorities.
In a statement to CNN, Gibson’s lawyer insisted the star has “cooperated fully with legal authorities” and will continue to do so. Gibson also extended his condolences to the grieving family, asking for privacy as the case moves forward.
While best known for his high-octane roles in Fast & Furious, Gibson is now facing a far more sobering storyline — one that could play out in a Georgia courtroom.
