Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to four years and two months in federal prison, closing a dramatic chapter in one of the most high-profile celebrity trials in recent memory.

The ruling, delivered Friday in Manhattan, followed a July verdict where a jury cleared the 55-year-old of the most serious allegations racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking but found him guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Each count carried up to 10 years in prison.

Combs, who has been held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Centre since his September 2024 arrest, will have the 13 months already served counted toward his sentence. He was also ordered to pay a $500,000 fine.

Before learning his fate, Combs addressed the court, apologising for what he called his “disgusting” and “shameful” behaviour, admitting his downfall stemmed from “drugs and excess.” His legal team had pushed for a lighter sentence, but prosecutors branded him “unrepentant” and pushed for more than 11 years behind bars.

The case hinged on disturbing testimony from Combs’s former partner Cassie Ventura and another woman, who both described being coerced into what prosecutors called “freak-offs” — drug-fuelled encounters with male escorts that Combs allegedly orchestrated. Ventura, whose 2016 hotel assault by Combs resurfaced during trial, later told the court she still suffers from nightmares and fears retaliation.

While the acquittals spared Combs a possible life sentence, the conviction cements a dramatic fall for the Bad Boy Records founder. Beyond the criminal case, he is also facing more than 50 civil lawsuits tied to sexual abuse and misconduct allegations, all of which he has denied.

For now, the once-untouchable hip-hop icon is set to remain behind bars until at least 2028 — a stunning downfall for one of music’s most powerful figures.
