Nairobi, Kenya – The Archdiocese of Nairobi has announced with deep sorrow the death of Reverend Father Joseph Mokaya, a veteran Catholic priest who faithfully served the Church for more than five decades.

His passing was confirmed by Most Reverend Philip Anyolo, Archbishop of Nairobi, who stated that Fr. Mokaya died at Mater Hospital on the night of January 27, 2026. At the time of his death, he was serving at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish, Buruburu.

His academic journey was equally distinguished. He pursued advanced studies at the University of Nairobi, Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, USA, and in Rome, where he earned both Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Sacred Theology.

The Archdiocese described him as a priest of “dedication and zeal,” whose ministry touched countless lives across Kenya and beyond. His legacy of selfless service continues to inspire clergy and laity alike.
