EACC Arrests Two Court Staff Over Alleged Bribery in Eldoret and Nakuru

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two court staff members accused of soliciting and receiving bribes in separate incidents in Eldoret and Nakuru.

The two suspects, Linet Okungu and Benard Ngeno, were arrested on September 8, 2026, following complaints alleging that they demanded or received money in exchange for facilitating court services.

The EACC said the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to tackle corruption and bribery within the justice system.

Court Assistant Arrested Over KSh20,000 Alleged Bribe

Okungu, a court assistant attached to a Magistrate’s Court, was arrested in Eldoret over allegations that she received a KSh20,000 bribe.

The arrest followed a complaint from a court user who alleged that a magistrate had demanded KSh50,000 to secure a stay order preventing the auction of a parcel of land in a case pending before the court.

According to the allegations, Okungu was subsequently arrested after allegedly receiving KSh20,000 in connection with the matter.

She was processed at Eldoret Police Station and later released on a KSh20,000 cash bail pending further investigations.

Nakuru Court Process Server Also Arrested

In a separate case, EACC officers arrested Benard Ngeno, a court process server attached to the Civil Registry at Nakuru Law Courts.

Ngeno is accused of allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe in exchange for securing a convenient mention date for a complainant's case.

Following his arrest, Ngeno was escorted to the EACC South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing.

He was subsequently released on a KSh5,000 cash bail.

Investigations Ongoing

The anti-corruption agency said investigations into both cases are ongoing.

The arrests come as authorities continue to focus on corruption risks within public institutions, including the justice system, where court users rely on officials to facilitate administrative and legal processes.

The allegations against the two court staff members have not been tested in court, and they remain innocent unless proven guilty.

EACC investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged bribe transactions and determine whether further action, including prosecution, will be taken.

The cases remain pending completion of investigations.
