People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has paid tribute to her late father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua, reflecting on the values and lessons he instilled in his family throughout his life.
In a message shared on Saturday, October 3, 2026, Karua said her father’s teachings, love and commitment to hard work would remain an important part of the lives of those he left behind.
She also remembered him as a disciplined and dedicated teacher whose approach to education and service influenced the family.
“What he taught us, the love he gave so freely, the value he placed on hard work, the discipline and dedication he carried throughout his life, and the importance of education and service that defined him as a teacher will remain woven into our lives,” Karua said.
A Life Shaped by Education
Mwalimu Jackson Karua was remembered by family and mourners as a teacher who placed strong emphasis on education, character and discipline.
Karua has previously described her father as a principled man who believed in education and doing what was right. She also recalled the support he gave her from her school years through her legal career and public life.
His funeral service was held at Mugumo Primary School in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, on Saturday, October 3, bringing together family members, friends, political leaders and other mourners. He was later expected to be laid to rest at the family home in Kathande.
Family Receives Messages of Support
Karua’s latest reflection comes after she thanked leaders, friends and other supporters who visited and consoled the family following her father’s death.
In a message shared on September 28, she said the prayers, messages of encouragement and visits had brought comfort to the family as they mourned their loss.
Among those who visited the family were Ida Odinga and her daughters, Rosemary and Winnie Odinga, who paid a condolence visit to Karua following the death of her father.
Remembering a Father and Teacher
Jackson Karua died on September 27, 2026, at his home in Kirinyaga County. Karua had earlier revealed that she and her siblings spent time with him on the day of his death and sang his favourite gospel hymn before she received news of his passing while travelling back to Nairobi.
As the family bids farewell to its patriarch, Karua’s reflections have centred on the values he left behind education, discipline, hard work, service and family.
For Karua and her siblings, those lessons now form part of the legacy through which they will continue to remember their father.
