NAIROBI, Kenya — The office of ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the veteran politician has died, describing the reports as false and urging the public to rely on official communication.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6, Oburu's secretariat said the Siaya Senator was alive, safe and in good spirits, dismissing the death reports as unfounded.

The statement came amid renewed speculation about the ODM leader's health on social media.

ODM Confirms Oburu Is Recovering

ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale also dismissed reports that Oburu had been rushed to hospital, saying the party leader had visited Nairobi Hospital for a routine medical check-up.

Etale said he had spoken with Oburu and confirmed that he was doing well. He urged the public and media to verify information before sharing reports concerning the politician's health.

The latest update follows Oburu's recent return to Kenya after travelling to the United Kingdom for a medical review and rest.

Gladys Wanga Gives Health Update

Homa Bay Governor and ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga provided a further update on Tuesday evening after visiting Oburu.

Wanga said the ODM leader was recovering steadily and remained in high spirits.

"My PL Dr Oburu is recovering steadily. I was with him this evening and he is in high spirits. We continue to pray for his full recovery," Wanga said in an update shared on social media.

Her comments provided additional reassurance following the spread of the death rumours.

Office Urges Public to Ignore Unverified Reports

Oburu's office urged members of the public, ODM supporters and Kenyans generally to disregard unverified claims concerning his health.

The secretariat said official communication channels should be used when seeking information about the party leader's condition, warning against the circulation of information that could cause unnecessary distress.

The latest clarification is consistent with previous fact-checking and statements from Oburu himself dismissing false reports about his health.

Oburu Takes Time to Recover

The 83-year-old Siaya Senator has reduced his public engagements while recovering from recent medical attention.

ODM officials have indicated that he will take some time away from active political activities as he continues his recovery.

Despite the health-related speculation, party officials say Oburu remains engaged with the affairs of ODM and continues to receive updates on the party's activities.

For now, the latest official position is that Oburu Oginga is alive and recovering, and reports announcing his death are false.
