TABUK, Saudi Arabia — A flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv was diverted to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday after an incident occurred on the aircraft's flight deck.

Flight FZ1073, operating from Dubai International Airport to Ben Gurion International Airport, landed safely at Tabuk Airport in northwestern Saudi Arabia. Flydubai said all passengers and crew were safe and accounted for.

The airline initially described the event only as an "incident" but later confirmed that an altercation occurred in the flight deck. The carrier said the aircraft was secured by off-duty flydubai crew members who were travelling on the flight and who helped divert the aircraft safely to Tabuk.

Emergency Signals Triggered Security Response

Flight-tracking data showed that the aircraft transmitted emergency signals during the incident, including the 7500 code, which indicates unlawful interference with an aircraft. The plane subsequently diverted toward Saudi Arabia and landed safely in Tabuk.

The incident prompted a security response in Israel, with Israeli fighter aircraft reportedly scrambled while authorities assessed whether the emergency could involve a hijacking.

Israeli officials later said the incident was not believed to be a hijacking, describing it instead as a different type of incident.

Reports Point to Altercation Between Pilots

Israeli media initially reported that the emergency was linked to a physical confrontation between the pilots.

Reuters, citing an Israeli official, reported that the emergency signals were transmitted after the pilots became involved in a physical altercation. However, details surrounding the confrontation, including its cause and circumstances, remain under investigation.

Flight-tracking information also indicated a rapid loss of altitude shortly before the emergency signals were transmitted. Flightradar24 reported that the aircraft descended by nearly 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds.

Investigation Underway

Flydubai has urged against premature speculation while authorities investigate what happened on board.

The airline said the reasons and motives behind the incident remain unknown and are subject to a formal investigation. It has also arranged replacement aircraft to assist passengers and crew who were diverted to Tabuk.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said the situation was under control and that measures were being taken to facilitate the return of Israeli passengers.

The incident occurred against a backdrop of heightened security concerns across the Middle East, adding to the significance of the emergency response.

For now, the confirmed facts are that FZ1073 experienced an altercation on the flight deck, diverted to Tabuk, and landed safely with passengers and crew accounted for. Further details about what triggered the confrontation remain subject to investigation.
